Celebrating the Life of John Michael Grimes John Michael Grimes, born on June 17, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, April 9, 2026, at the age of 60. He was surrounded by love as he departed to his eternal home. A Life Filled with Laughter and Generosity John was a comedic force in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey was marked by humor, spontaneity, generosity, fun, and laughter. He was always the life of the party. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and countless others whose lives he touched. John made a deep impact on everyone, fortunate enough to know him. Family and Loved Ones John is survived by his loving wife, Sandi; his beautiful children, Ashley Lyden, John Michael Grimes, and Niko Grimes; his adoring mother, Joanne Grimes; and his youngest sibling, Patrice (PATTI!!) (Neal) Miller. He also leaves behind his nephews Alex and Ryan Miller, nieces Jacquelyn DeBosschere and Ashley Gusek, as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins who shared his joyful spirit. He was preceded in death by his protective father, Jack (John) Grimes; his older siblings, Laura Grimes and Denise DeBosschere; and dear mother-in-law Arlene Gusek and brother-in-law, Bill Gusek. Education and Career John attended St. Francis Borgia grammar school with his wife and siblings, thriving in sports and simultaneously serving as an altar boy and getting into trouble. His mischievous nature kept his teachers alert. After high school, he served in the United States Army, worked at O’Hare Airport briefly, and began a career in healthcare purchasing at Evanston Northshore Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children. John excelled in negotiations with vendors, building strong relationships through charm and humor. Hobbies and Interests Outside of work, John enjoyed bowling, golfing, relaxing, and spending time with family and friends. He was known for his generosity and big heart, always willing to lend a helping hand. John’s love for country and history was reflected in the books he read, movies he enjoyed, the flags he raised, and the quizzes he gave to everyone (remember your state capitals!!), often catching people off guard. He was quick with a joke and loved a good prank. You could always count on John to have your back in any tough situation! Many of you have a memory or two that comes to mind. Marriage and Family Gatherings John and Sandi met in their late twenties and were married in Negril, Jamaica in 1999. Their relationship was built on love and laughter. They cherished hosting family and friends at their home, where John was the grill-master, ensuring guests were happy, comfortable, and well fed while everyone enjoyed swimming and relaxing in each other’s company. Legacy Those who knew John will remember his infectious smile, overwhelming laughter, deep love for history and country, protective nature, and his rare ability to make others smile and laugh no matter what the circumstances. His presence left a lasting impact, and he was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Celebration of Life Service The Celebration of Life service to honor John Michael Grimes will be held on April 17, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Schielka Addison Street Funeral Home, located at 7710 W Addison Street, Chicago, IL. Although John’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him. May his memory be a blessing and his light forever shine brightly in our hearts. The family will receive friends at Schielka Addison Street Funeral Home, 7710 W Addison Street, on Friday, April 17th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. John will be interred at Queen of Heaven.
